The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) received another blow to its ranks from within Balochistan as former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Thursday announced his decision to join Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

The former premier revealed his intentions to enlist in the party, along with his associates from PML-N, during a telephonic conversation with PTI Balochistan President Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind.

Rind expressed great satisfaction at the decision, appreciating the services Jamali has rendered to the nation.

In late March, after the Senate elections had taken place, Jamali had reacted strongly to the demand of re-election of Senate chairman.

He said that Punjab and some other forces couldn’t tolerate the winning of a candidate for the post from Balochistan. The demand was undemocratic and unconstitutional, the former premier had added.

Punjab and certain forces always tried to keep Balochistan and Sindh away from politics and the government had deepened the sense of deprivation among its people, Jamali had said, adding that Balochistan was a federating unit and such a discriminatory attitude with its people was not justified.

At the time, in reference to the launch of a new Balochistan-based political party comprising PML dissidents, he said it would prove a last nail in the coffin of the “real Muslim League”.

“I am a Muslim Leaguer but not part of the PML-N,” he had clarified and said with the emergence of different leagues, the real Muslim League has been completely destroyed.
