Israel placed Palestinian cities in the occupied West Bank under full lockdown on Friday, as the occupying power braced for Tehran’s\u00a0retaliation in response to Tel Aviv’s deadly attacks on Iran earlier today.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Israeli military claimed that Iran had responded by deploying about 100 drones, which were being intercepted by Tel Aviv’s forces.<\/p>\n

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) stated it had \u201ccontrol over the situation\u201d but continued to reinforce troop levels across borders and in sensitive areas, including the occupied West Bank.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said military operations would go on \u201cas long as necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader, promised \u201csevere punishment\u201d in response to the Israeli aggression, which killed senior Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists as well as dozens of\u00a0civilians.<\/p>\n

Officials have not given a timeline for lifting the West Bank lockdown.<\/p>\n

The IDF said its decisions were based on real-time assessments and the ongoing risk of retaliation by Iran or its regional proxies.<\/p>\n

Israel attacked Iran on Friday, expanding its military campaign beyond Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.<\/p>\n

The strike targeted Iranian nuclear facilities under Israel\u2019s unverified and unilateral claim of preventing weapons development, despite Tehran\u2019s repeated denials and insistence its nuclear programme is peaceful<\/p>\n

As a result, several high-ranking Iranian military officials were killed, and six nuclear scientists, along with numerous civilians, lost their lives.<\/p>\n

The United States has denied any involvement in the strikes. Global leaders have called for restraint as tensions continue to rise. Additionally, flights have been significantly disrupted in the wake of the Israeli assault on Iran.<\/p>\n

Tel Aviv’s\u00a0attack further destabilises a region already shaken by Israel\u2019s ongoing assault on Gaza since October 2023 and cross-border strikes against other neighbouring states.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
