During a heated segment on The View aired June 18, 2025, co-host Whoopi Goldberg drew strong reactions after stating that life in the United States is \u201cthe same\u201d as life under Iran\u2019s authoritarian regime.<\/p>\n

The comment was made during a political debate with co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin.<\/p>\n

Goldberg, 69, argued that racial injustice and violence in the U.S. are comparable to Iran\u2019s brutal human rights abuses. \u201cWe have been known in this country to tie gay folks to the car… They used to just keep hanging Black people,\u201d she said, claiming it equated to government-backed violence in Iran.<\/p>\n

Griffin, a conservative commentator, immediately rejected the comparison, citing Iran\u2019s strict dress codes, lack of free elections, and the threat of execution for minor offenses like not wearing a hijab. \u201cIt\u2019s not even the same universe,\u201d she insisted, pointing out that her current outfit would be illegal in Tehran.<\/p>\n

Despite acknowledging that the U.S. is \u201cthe greatest country in the world,\u201d Goldberg emphasized the daily fear many Black Americans live with. \u201cEvery day we are worried… Are our kids gonna get shot because they\u2019re running through somebody\u2019s neighborhood?\u201d<\/p>\n

The debate intensified as Goldberg stated Griffin would never fully understand the Black American experience. Joy Behar attempted to mediate, urging Griffin to empathize with those who feel marginalized in the U.S.<\/p>\n

The clash comes amid increased global scrutiny on Iran, following its ongoing conflict with Israel and controversial nuclear advancements. The segment ended unresolved, with Goldberg saying the topic would be revisited in a future episode.<\/p>\n
