At least eight Palestinians were killed on Friday\u00a0in an Israeli air strike on a school sheltering displaced families in northern Gaza, said\u00a0local medical sources.<\/p>\n

The strike targeted the school in an area where many civilians had sought refuge from ongoing military operations,\u00a0according to Al Jazeera Arabic.\u00a0The report, citing a source at Al-Shifa Hospital, added that several others were wounded in the attack.<\/p>\n

Ceasefire talks\u00a0<\/p>\n

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has, for the first time, publicly stated that Israel is seeking an end to the war in Gaza \u2014 but only under conditions set by Israel, Al Jazeera reported.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Washington, Netanyahu said Israel is prepared to enter a 60-day temporary ceasefire and begin negotiations for a permanent resolution. However, he listed three \u201cminimal requirements\u201d for any lasting end to the conflict.<\/p>\n

These include a complete disarmament of Hamas, the group\u2019s full military and political dismantlement, and its removal from any future role in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Netanyahu warned that if Israel\u2019s demands are not met during the ceasefire period, military operations would resume. \u201cOne way or another, Israel is going to achieve its objectives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

‘Counterterrorism’ operations in occupied West Bank<\/p>\n

Separately, Israeli Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Eyal Zamir visited the site of an attack in the Israeli settlement of Gush Etzion on Thursday night and vowed to escalate counterterrorism operations in the occupied West Bank.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, a Palestinian carried out a combined stabbing and shooting attack, killing one Israeli before being shot dead by security forces, the Israeli military said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The statement quoted\u00a0Zamir as describing\u00a0the incident as a \u201cgrave terror attack\u201d\u00a0and expressing\u00a0condolences for the victim\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

He also praised the security forces for preventing what he said could have been a \u201clarger and more severe\u201d assault.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue intense counterterrorism activity wherever necessary,\u201d Zamir said, referring to ongoing operations across the West Bank.<\/p>\n

Israel’s war on Gaza<\/p>\n

The Israeli army has launched a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing at least 57,481 Palestinians, including 134,592 children. More than 111,588 people have been injured, and over 14,222 are missing and presumed dead.<\/p>\n

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. The proposed deal includes a pause in hostilities, increased humanitarian aid, and negotiations on the release of captives.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
