{"id":14559,"date":"2025-07-23T15:04:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T15:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=14559"},"modified":"2025-07-23T15:04:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T15:04:08","slug":"lhc-grills-ctd-on-kill-pattern-during-encounters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=14559","title":{"rendered":"LHC grills CTD on kill pattern during &#8216;encounters&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The Lahore High Court (LHC)\u00a0directed Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar on Wednesday to explain why, in Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) \u201cencounters\u201d, only the accused are struck by bullets while police vans and their inmates remain unharmed.<\/p>\n<p>The CTD has faced repeated accusations of \u201cfake encounters\u201d, in which suspects die under suspicious circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Justice Aalia Neelum issued the summons while hearing\u00a0Farhat Bibi\u2019s petition alleging her son, Ghazanfar Aslam, was killed in a \u201cfake police encounter\u201d on April 22. The petitioner sought protection for her other son, Ansar Aslam, who is detained in Sheikhupura jail. Her counsel told the court both Ghazanfar and Ansar were arrested by Sharaqpur Police.<\/p>\n<p>According to the CTD\u2019s report, officers pulled up the suspects\u2019 van because of a punctured tyre. The report claims that, as the team approached to investigate, the van\u2019s occupants attacked the officers, who then opened fire, hitting only the suspects.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Neelum challenged this narrative, observing that \u201chow do bullets find detainees only, leaving officers and their vehicles untouched?\u201d She noted the court receives over 40 petitions daily alleging staged custodial killings.<\/p>\n<p>The CTD has faced repeated accusations of \u201cfake encounters\u201d, in which suspects die under suspicious circumstances.
