REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>India was hit by devastating rains and flooding on Tuesday, triggering landslides and blocking roads, which hampered rescue efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The helicopter rescuers were given instructions needed to ensure the operation was effective, the state&#8217;s chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The heli-rescue operation &#8230; started in the affected areas this morning,&#8221; he added in a post on X.<\/p>\n<p>Army rescuers used their hands, as well as machinery, to shift boulders from roads turned into muddy, gushing rivers, in visuals from the region.<\/p>\n<p>About 200 people had been rescued over Tuesday and Wednesday, army and state officials said, but many more were feared stranded and missing.<\/p>\n<p>Read:\u00a0Floods and mudslide kill four, over 50 missing in India\u2019s\u00a0Uttarakhand<\/p>\n<p>View of the damage amid heavy rains in this image taken in Dharali, Uttarakhand, India August 6, 2025.
