Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday praised the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for its critical role in protecting the country\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.<\/p>\n

In a meeting with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, the Chief of the Air Staff, Shehbaz Sharif commended the Air Force\u2019s legacy of bravery and professionalism. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, allowed both sides to discuss key military matters, with a focus on strengthening Pakistan\u2019s aerial defence capabilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe valiant Shaheens of the Pakistan Air Force stand as an impregnable shield in the defense of our motherland,\u201d Sharif said, acknowledging the sacrifices made by the airmen.<\/p>\n

Shehbaz also reflected on the significant contributions of the PAF during pivotal moments in the country\u2019s history, particularly during combat operations. He recalled how the Air Force had delivered decisive blows to adversaries, including shooting down enemy aircraft in combat situations.<\/p>\n

PM reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to supporting and enhancing Pakistan\u2019s defence infrastructure, ensuring the continued strength of the air force in safeguarding national interests.<\/p>\n

Both sides also pledged to further enhance the PAF\u2019s operational capacity and readiness, underlining the importance of a strong aerial defence in securing Pakistan\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n

Pakistan-India Recent Conflict<\/p>\n

Pakistan downed six Indian fighter jets during the four-day conflict between the two nuclear armed neighbours in May this year and that the country had documentary evidence in the shape of videos to substantiate its claim.<\/p>\n

The escalation between Pakistan and India began on April 22, when an attack in Pahalgam killed 26 people. India immediately blamed Pakistan for the incident. However, Pakistan categorically rejected the Indian blame.<\/p>\n

In response, India undertook a series of hostile actions the next day on April 23, including suspending the 65-year-old Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), cancelling visas for Pakistani citizens, closing the Wagah-Attari border crossing, ordering the shutdown of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, and reducing diplomatic staff at each other’s embassies.<\/p>\n

Tensions further escalated in the early hours of May 7, when missile strikes hit six cities in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), destroying a mosque and killing dozens of civilians, including women, children, and the elderly.<\/p>\n

In a swift military response, Pakistan\u2019s armed forces shot down six Indian warplanes, including three Rafale jets. The confrontation intensified again in the early hours of May 10, when India targeted several Pakistani airbases with missile strikes. In retaliation, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, damaging Indian military installations, including missile storage sites, airbases, and other strategic targets.<\/p>\n

Later, US President Donald Trump announced that a ceasefire had been reached following intense diplomatic efforts overnight.
