{"id":18655,"date":"2025-09-09T12:04:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T12:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=18655"},"modified":"2025-09-09T12:04:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T12:04:12","slug":"historical-drama-nuremberg-wins-audience-over-at-toronto-international-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=18655","title":{"rendered":"Historical drama &#8216;Nuremberg&#8217; wins audience over at Toronto International Film Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Academy Award winners\u00a0Russell\u00a0Crowe\u00a0and\u00a0Rami\u00a0Malek\u00a0captivated their\u00a0Toronto\u00a0audience in\u00a0historical\u00a0drama\u00a0Nuremberg, which received a roaring four-minute standing ovation after its world premiere on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Director James Vanderbilt&#8217;s film chronicles the eponymous war crimes trials of 22 major Nazi figures after the end of World War Two.<\/p>\n<p>Crowe\u00a0plays the role of infamous German Nazi leader Hermann G\u00f6ring, while\u00a0Malek\u00a0portrays U.S. Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley, who is assigned the task of evaluating him\u00a0and\u00a0other Nazi captives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There have been a lot of World War Two films but there haven&#8217;t been a lot of post World War Two films,&#8221; Vanderbilt told Reuters on the red carpet ahead of the premiere at the\u00a0Toronto\u00a0International Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>He said having an all-star cast that also includes Michael Shannon, Richard E. Grant, John Slattery\u00a0and\u00a0Leo Woodall, made working on the project easier, which is based on Jack El-Hai&#8217;s 2013 non-fiction book The Nazi\u00a0and\u00a0the Psychiatrist.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00f6ring was a fascinating character to play,\u00a0Crowe\u00a0said, as he dipped into explaining the different stages of the Nazi leader&#8217;s life\u00a0and\u00a0ambitions, leading into the Nuremberg trials.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You get to the end of the war, they decide there&#8217;s gonna be a trial.\u00a0And\u00a0Hermann, he still thinks he can talk his way out of this,&#8221;\u00a0Crowe\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>Grant, who dons the role of British lawyer David Maxwell Fyfe, spoke of Vanderbilt&#8217;s exhaustive research on the topic. &#8220;There wasn&#8217;t a question that anybody could ask that he didn&#8217;t have the answer to,&#8221; the English actor said.<\/p>\n<p>The film\u00a0will be released in theaters in November.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Academy Award winners\u00a0Russell\u00a0Crowe\u00a0and\u00a0Rami\u00a0Malek\u00a0captivated their\u00a0Toronto\u00a0audience in\u00a0historical\u00a0drama\u00a0Nuremberg, which received a roaring four-minute standing ovation after its world premiere on Sunday.
