{"id":1952,"date":"2026-09-30T23:03:51","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T18:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=1952"},"modified":"2026-09-30T23:03:51","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T18:03:51","slug":"russia-sends-nuclear-warning-to-nato-as-tensions-rise-in-the-baltic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=1952","title":{"rendered":"Russia sends nuclear warning to NATO as tensions rise in the Baltic"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>Russia has warned NATO it would be ready to resort to nuclear \u200bweapons if the Western alliance attempted to cut off Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave that borders the Baltic Sea.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a document sent to NATO \u200cand seen by Reuters, Moscow accused the alliance of a \u201cdangerous and reckless course\u201d that entailed \u201chigh risks of the outbreak of a direct armed conflict\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The document said this included the possibility of \u201cRussian strikes against decision-making centres in the alliance\u2019s member states right from the outset\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussia will be ready to use the entire arsenal of forces and capabilities at its disposal, including nuclear weapons, in order to defend \u200bits territory should NATO countries undertake any attempt aimed at isolating the Kaliningrad Region from the rest of the country,\u201d the diplomatic note said.<\/p>\n<p>The warning highlighted \u200bMoscow\u2019s urgent concern at what it has presented as a growing NATO threat to Kaliningrad, a heavily militarised Russian territory that \u2060is wedged between Poland and Lithuania and is slightly bigger than the US state of Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the alliance had responded to Russia\u2019s message \u200bby declaring: \u201cWe are a defensive alliance. And stop the nuclear threats. This is absolutely not called for and not helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In its written response, seen by Reuters, NATO also said \u200bthat none of its \u201cexercises or activities poses a threat to the territory of the Russian Federation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe call upon the Russian Federation to end its unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine. We urge the Russian Federation to refrain from increasingly reckless behaviour towards the Allies and to cease its irresponsible nuclear rhetoric,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if the risk of nuclear weapons being used against the Baltics was now \u200breal, Rutte told a defence conference in Brussels hosted by broadcaster Euronews: \u201cNo, it\u2019s not.
