{"id":2039,"date":"2026-10-02T11:03:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T06:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2039"},"modified":"2026-10-02T11:03:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T06:03:47","slug":"supermodel-naomi-campbell-wins-appeal-against-charity-trustee-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2039","title":{"rendered":"Supermodel Naomi Campbell wins appeal against charity trustee ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>Supermodel <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/lifestyle\/model-naomi-campbell-gets-her-own-exhibition-londons-va-museum-2024-06-19\/\">Naomi Campbell<\/a> won her appeal on Thursday against a five-year ban from being a charity trustee, with a London tribunal ruling \u200bthat the misuse of funds at the charity she founded had been \u200cconcealed from her.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Campbell, one of fashion\u2019s most recognisable faces, founded Fashion for Relief in 2005, aiming to raise funds for humanitarian causes by staging runway shows.<\/p>\n<p>But it was removed from the Charity \u200bCommission\u2019s register in 2024, and Campbell was banned as a trustee shortly afterwards following \u200bcomplaints of mismanagement and misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>The Charity Commission found widespread financial mismanagement, \u2060including money raised for good causes having been spent on spa treatments, cigarettes and \u200broom service when Campbell was staying at a five-star hotel near Cannes in southern \u200bFrance in May 2018.<\/p>\n<p>A lawyer acting as a trustee for the charity also received around \u00a3290,000 ($382,771) in unauthorised payments for apparent consultancy fees.<\/p>\n<p>Campbell, however, said she had no knowledge that charity funds were spent \u200bon her expenses and was deceived by another trustee about the unauthorised payments.<\/p>\n<p>Her appeal \u200bwas allowed by the First-Tier Tribunal, which said in its ruling that there was \u201cserious misconduct and \u200cmismanagement\u201d \u2060at Fashion for Relief, but that the unauthorised payments and misuse of funds were concealed from Campbell.<\/p>\n<p>The tribunal also found that Campbell \u201cwas not responsible for the inappropriate use of the charity\u2019s resources or any unjustified expenditure\u201d during her 2018 hotel stay.<\/p>\n<p>Campbell \u201cdid share ultimate \u200bresponsibility for the charity\u2019s \u200bfailure to keep \u2060proper minutes and file its accounts on time\u201d, the tribunal added, but ruled that did not mean she was unfit to \u200bbe a charity trustee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so grateful to the tribunal and the \u200bjudges for \u2060taking the time to hear my side, look at the evidence and see the truth of what happened,\u201d Campbell said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The Charity Commission said it was considering \u2060if the \u200bruling had \u201cany wider implications for our work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of \u200bour regulatory interventions to protect Fashion for Relief\u2019s funds, other charities received almost \u00a3250,000 owed to them,\u201d a Charity \u200bCommission spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Supermodel Naomi Campbell won her appeal on Thursday against a five-year ban from being a charity trustee, with a London tribunal ruling \u200bthat the misuse of funds at the charity she founded had been \u200cconcealed from her.
