{"id":20807,"date":"2025-09-27T09:04:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T09:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=20807"},"modified":"2025-09-27T09:04:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T09:04:08","slug":"atacama-desert-transforms-with-rare-purple-bloom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=20807","title":{"rendered":"Atacama Desert transforms with rare purple bloom"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>A rare blanket of flowers has transformed Chile\u2019s Atacama Desert, the driest in the world, and drawn tourists and scientists to marvel at the fleeting blaze of colour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we have winter rain fall, we get this flowering of different native species in the spring,\u201d said Jorge Carabantes, regional head of protected areas at Chile\u2019s National Forestry Commission, or CONAF, adding that 200 documented species can appear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey bloom for a short time before going dormant and then everything goes back to how it was before the rain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read: Chilean Desert blooms in rare winter surprise<\/p>\n<p>Families and visitors flocked to Llanos de Challe National Park to walk among the multi-colored fields of wildflowers, cameras in hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s beautiful, something we must protect,\u201d said tourist Ronald Lagos. \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alan Martinez, a teacher, said he made the trip knowing how rare the flowering is: \u201cIt doesn\u2019t happen every year.
