{"id":2154,"date":"2026-10-04T21:04:26","date_gmt":"2026-10-04T16:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2154"},"modified":"2026-10-04T21:04:26","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T16:04:26","slug":"woman-at-center-of-cornell-rape-allegations-targeted-with-threats-lawyer-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2154","title":{"rendered":"Woman at center of Cornell rape allegations targeted with threats, lawyer says"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>The woman who has alleged that she was drugged \u200cand raped by Cornell University students has been the target of threats, her lawyer said on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thomas Giuffra, who represents the woman identified as \u201cJane Doe,\u201d told CNN that people have \u200bthreatened to silence or harm her if she does not withdraw \u200bher civil lawsuit alleging that several members of a Cornell fraternity drugged \u2060and raped her in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s received multiple threats,\u201d Giuffra said on CNN\u2019s \u201cState \u200bof the Union.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Giuffra said he had also been threatened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not afraid of these \u200bpeople,\u201d he said. \u201cBut the threats, the abuse to protect what\u2019s going on, the status quo \u2014 these guys are disgusting. They should stay in their mother\u2019s basement and stay out of the \u200bworld.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cornell University President Michael Kotlikoff said in a video message on Saturday \u200bthat the university will examine the role of fraternities and sororities on campus following the outcry over the \u200cschool\u2019s \u2060handling of the rape allegations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt their best, these organisations can provide students with friendship, belonging, mentorship and a powerful sense of community,\u201d he said. \u201cBut being part of a group can never diminish individual responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since the lawsuit was filed last \u200bmonth, prosecutors in \u200bTompkins County, New \u2060York, have been criticised for their initial handling of the allegations in 2024. New York Governor Kathy Hochul last week \u200bnamed state Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor to look \u200binto the \u2060case.<\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump, a critic of James for years, lambasted the decision to appoint her. \u201cAnd I feel badly for whoever she\u2019s looking at because they won\u2019t \u2060get \u200ba fair shake,\u201d Trump told reporters on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Asked \u200babout Trump\u2019s comment, Giuffra said the case shouldn\u2019t be politicised. \u201cIt has nothing to do with politics,\u201d Giuffra \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The woman who has alleged that she was drugged \u200cand raped by Cornell University students has been the target of threats, her lawyer said on Sunday.
