Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar died on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He was 75.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Patekar was found unconscious at his home in the Dona Paula area and was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him with continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for around 45 minutes.<\/p>\n

He was declared dead at about 5.20am.<\/p>\n

His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the death, saying the actor died of natural causes.<\/p>\n

Dr Shekhar Salkar, chief of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, said a medico-legal case had been registered and a post-mortem would be conducted.<\/p>\n

Born Vishwanath Patekar on January 1, 1951, Nana was among the most respected actors in Hindi and Marathi cinema, known for his intense screen presence, powerful dialogue delivery and versatility in serious, emotional and negative roles.<\/p>\n

He made his film debut with Gaman<\/em> in 1978 and went on to deliver acclaimed performances in films including Salaam Bombay!, Parinda, Angaar, Tirangaa, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Yeshwant, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan<\/em> and Raajneeti<\/em>.<\/p>\n

His performance in Parinda earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.<\/p>\n

Patekar\u2019s talent earned him several major honours, including two more National Film Awards and the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to cinema and the arts.<\/p>\n

He remained closely connected to Marathi cinema and theatre throughout his career, while also showing a lighter side in the Welcome<\/em> franchise, where audiences came to love his portrayal of Uday Shetty.<\/p>\n

Away from the screen, Patekar also devoted time to social causes and co-founded the Naam Foundation with actor Makarand Anaspure to help farmers and families affected by agrarian distress.<\/p>\n

His final film appearance was in Suresh Triveni\u2019s Subedaar<\/em>, in which he starred alongside Anil Kapoor.<\/p>\n

In a career spanning over decades, Patekar carved out a distinctive place for himself in Bollywood.<\/p>\n
