{"id":2302,"date":"2026-10-08T10:03:55","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T05:03:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2302"},"modified":"2026-10-08T10:03:55","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T05:03:55","slug":"dollar-edges-back-from-18-month-high-after-fomc-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2302","title":{"rendered":"Dollar edges back from 18-month high after FOMC minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>The dollar held near its strongest level in a year-and-a-half in subdued trading at the start of the Asian session on \u200bThursday, after <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/fed-policymakers-divided-over-rate-hike-logic-september-minutes-show-2026-10-07\/\">hawkish minutes<\/a> from the Federal Open Market Committee signalled policymakers \u200cat the US central bank viewed inflation as the biggest risk to their outlook.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The dollar index , which measures its strength against a basket of six currencies, was steady at 102.23 after \u200brising 0.3% on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The greenback remains within a few pips of \u200bits strongest levels since April 9, 2025, following the market turmoil \u2060that accompanied the so-called Liberation Day tariff announcement the previous week.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Reserve policymakers \u200bvoted unanimously to raise interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point \u200bat the US central bank\u2019s September 15-16 meeting, but minutes released Wednesday indicated divisions over their rationale for doing so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FOMC\u2019s minutes reinforced the hawkish tone accompanying the Fed\u2019s September rate hike, \u200bwith most participants still viewing further tightening as appropriate and almost all seeing \u200binflation risks tilted to the upside at the time of the meeting,\u201d Westpac analysts wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200cminutes did \u2060little to shift expectations that the Fed will refrain from hiking at its meeting later this month.
