{"id":2329,"date":"2026-10-08T15:03:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T10:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2329"},"modified":"2026-10-08T15:03:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T10:03:47","slug":"pakistan-bahrain-set-1bn-bilateral-trade-target-dar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2329","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan, Bahrain set $1bn bilateral trade target: Dar"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Pakistan and Bahrain have set a target of increasing bilateral trade to $1 billion as the two countries seek to strengthen economic ties and expand cooperation across various sectors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Addressing the third meeting of the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Ministerial Commission in Islamabad on Thursday, Dar said that both sides needed to make concerted efforts to achieve the trade target through business-to-business and government-to-government linkages.<\/p>\n<p>He said Pakistan and Bahrain had completed 55 years of diplomatic relations and expressed a resolve to maintain high-level contacts and further strengthen bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Dar said around 134,000 Pakistanis were living in Bahrain and stressed the need to further facilitate the mobility of skilled Pakistani workers.<\/p>\n<p>He also welcomed the mutual support extended by Pakistan and Bahrain at multilateral forums and expressed a desire to broaden cooperation between the two countries in various fields.<\/p>\n<p>Dar and Bahrain\u2019s Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani discussed ways to further expand bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest, particularly in trade, economic and investment relations, as well as through engagement at multilateral fora.<\/p>\n<p>The two ministers reviewed Pakistan-Bahrain relations and expressed satisfaction at the positive momentum in high-level engagement between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual interest and underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most viable means of addressing challenges and resolving disputes.<\/p>\n<p>Dar welcomed progress towards the Gulf Cooperation Council-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (GCCFTA), saying its conclusion would help both sides expand trade and achieve their economic objectives.<\/p>\n<p>Dar also appreciated Bahrain\u2019s recruitment of 1,800 Pakistani personnel, including 30 retired army officers, for the Bahrain National Guard.<\/p>\n<p>He also welcomed the June 2026 memorandum of understanding between the Pakistan Coast Guards and Bahrain\u2019s Ministry of Interior, under which 13 Pakistani officers and 37 soldiers joined the Bahraini Coast Guard.<\/p>\n<p>Bahrain\u2019s Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani said the meeting was taking place amid an unresolved regional crisis and threats to navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>He strongly condemned the October 6 and 7 terrorist attacks on Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia, as well as attacks by the Houthi militia on civilians and civilian facilities and assaults targeting Makkah and Madinah.<\/p>\n<p>He termed attacks on airports and civilian infrastructure a violation of international law and international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Al Zayani said Bahrain considered Saudi Arabia\u2019s security integral to its own and the GCC\u2019s security and expressed full solidarity with Riyadh.<\/p>\n<p>He appreciated Pakistan\u2019s constructive role under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in hosting talks in Islamabad and promoting dialogue and de-escalation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Pakistan and Bahrain have set a target of increasing bilateral trade to $1 billion as the two countries seek to strengthen economic ties and expand cooperation across various sectors.
