US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 52 cents, or 0.6%, \u200bto $90.97.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Brent prices are set for weekly gains after settling 4% \u200bhigher on Thursday because of an increase in attacks on shipping \u2060carrying crude out of the Middle East earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>WTI is set \u200bfor a slight weekly decline even amid supply disruptions due to a hurricane \u200bapproaching the Gulf of Mexico coast in the US, the world\u2019s biggest oil producer.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Trump said Washington was having \u201cproductive discussions\u201d with Iran and said no attack was planned before \u200bthe November 3 midterm congressional elections after media reports he was considering an \u200battack before then.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Tasnim news agency reported the same day that Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi \u200csaid \u2060Tehran is reviewing the US response to its proposal that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.<\/p>\n<p>The US is still pressuring Iran economically to try to end the war, now in its eighth month.<\/p>\n<p>The US imposed fresh sanctions \u200bon Thursday targeting \u200bindividuals, networks and \u206017 vessels for transporting Iranian crude, oil products and petrochemicals.<\/p>\n<p>Prices have been volatile this week as threats to oil shipping \u200bin the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, which \u200bcarried shipments \u2060equal to about 20% of global oil and fuel before the war, have increased in October.<\/p>\n<p>The oil market is also contending with Hurricane Isaias in the Gulf of \u2060Mexico. \u200b<\/p>\n<p>Because of the storm, producers there have shut \u200bin about 1.3 million barrels per day, or 62.9%, of current oil production as of Thursday, \u200baccording to the US Marine Minerals Management Service.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oil prices fell on Friday as Middle East supply concerns eased somewhat after US President Donald Trump said the country will not attack Iran \u200bbefore US elections next month amid productive talks to end their \u200cwar that has disrupted the market.
