{"id":2402,"date":"2026-10-09T19:03:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T14:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2402"},"modified":"2026-10-09T19:03:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T14:03:47","slug":"israeli-settlers-plant-dozens-of-flags-outside-palestinian-cafe-in-west-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2402","title":{"rendered":"Israeli settlers plant dozens of flags outside Palestinian caf\u00e9 in West Bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>Israeli settlers have planted dozens of Israeli flags at the entrance of a streetside Palestinian cafe in the occupied West Bank, obscuring it \u200bfrom one side in what its owner described as a blatant act \u200cof intimidation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The coffee shop in the small village of Luban al-Sharqiya sits along the West Bank\u2019s main north-south traffic artery, used by both Palestinians and the approximately 500,000 Israeli settlers who live \u200bin the territory.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, settlers, some of whom have waged a campaign \u200bof violence and intimidation against Palestinians in a bid to force them \u2060off their land, have planted flags along the road and in close proximity \u200bat village entrances or near Palestinian landmarks.<\/p>\n<p>When Mueiyyid Hussein went to open his coffee shop \u200bon Thursday morning, he discovered settlers had placed dozens of Israeli flags up against its entrance, packed together and obscuring it from southbound travellers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are not leaving us alone. They have blocked the \u200bview of my shop,\u201d said Hussein, owner of the Luban al-Sharqiya Coffee Shop and \u200bRest Area.<\/p>\n<p>While Reuters was interviewing Hussein, a settler who he said was responsible for planting the flags \u200cdrove \u2060by, filming Hussein and the shop with his cellphone. Reuters was not able to reach the man for comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe drives away and then comes back to check whether I have removed any flags. He says he will come back and shut down my \u200bshop,\u201d Hussein said.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli \u200bmilitary did not immediately \u2060respond to a request for comment on the placement of the flags.<\/p>\n<p>UN bodies and most countries view Israel\u2019s settlements and settler \u200boutposts as illegal under international law regarding military occupations. Israel rejects \u200bthis, viewing \u2060the territory as disputed rather than occupied.<\/p>\n<p>The West Bank has seen a sharp rise in settler violence against Palestinians and settler seizures of Palestinian land and resources.
