Brands, celebrities, and even government accounts have joined in the fun this year, leaving us all wondering what’s real and what’s just a hilarious hoax.

Here’s the rundown on some of the most viral (and totally bogus) pranks making the rounds today.

Warren Buffett Did NOT Buy Tesla for $1 Trillion

GoBankingRates dropped a satirical bombshell claiming Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway bought Tesla for a whopping $1 trillion in cash. The article even included a quote from Buffett saying, “I’ve secretly been driving a Cybertruck around my Nebraska neighbourhood at night.”

Nice try, but in reality, Buffett has no interest in Tesla. In fact, at last year’s Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting, he called Elon Musk a “brilliant, brilliant guy,” but added, “We don’t want to compete with Elon in a lot of things.” Sorry, Tesla fans!

Tiger Woods Isn’t Playing in the Masters Next Week (But Nice Try!)

After claiming he was ready to play the Masters next week following a ruptured Achilles, Tiger Woods took to X (formerly Twitter) to joke about his recovery. “A few weeks after rupturing my left Achilles… I’m ready to play!” he wrote, before clarifying, “P.S. April Fools my Achilles is still a mess.” Sorry, folks, Woods won’t be hitting the green anytime soon—except for the Champions Dinner at Augusta.

DOGE Is Not Sending $1 Million Stimulus Checks to Republicans

No, DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) is not giving away $1 million stimulus checks to Republicans in the U.S., despite a wild April Fools’ story from GoBankingRates.

The article suggested DOGE had saved $140 billion in government spending—sounds good, right? But a quick check reveals only $35 billion of that is actually itemized on their website. Looks like we’ll have to wait for those stimulus checks (if they ever come at all).

New Jersey’s ‘Mount Jonas’ Is Just a Joke

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by New Jersey (@njgov)

New Jersey’s Instagram account had a mountainous prank up its sleeve, announcing plans to build “Mount Jonas”—a replica of Mount Rushmore with the faces of the Jonas Brothers.

Kevin, Joe, and Nick, who hail from New Jersey, would be immortalized in stone. Kevin Jonas even joked, “I approve this message.” It’s all in good fun… but we’re not holding our breath for any new mountains in New Jersey.

Elon Musk Is Not Giving Free Teslas to Congress

GoBankingRates claimed Elon Musk was giving away free Teslas to all 535 members of Congress today. While it would’ve been a nice gesture, Musk has not made any such offer.

In fact, many public figures are ditching their Teslas, citing Musk’s recent actions, including Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona. As for former President Trump? He’s still a fan of Tesla, even announcing plans to buy one himself.

New York City’s 1 MPH Walking Speed Limit? Just a Prank

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by City of New York (@nycgov)

New York City’s official Instagram account dropped a classic April Fools’ prank, announcing a new rule to limit walking speed to just 1 mph across the city.

“It’ll decrease pedestrian-on-tourist collisions and improve New Yorkers’ mental wellbeing,” they joked. NYC may have its quirks, but that’s one rule we’re happy to see is just a joke.

So, there you have it—April Fools’ Day is alive and well, with pranks coming from all angles.
