A Saudi-led coalition has launched large-scale military operations against Yemen\u2019s Houthi rebels, targeting their ballistic missile network and rocket launch platforms, as the United Nations warned that the country had slipped back into \u201cfull-scale war\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Coalition spokesman Maj-General Turki Al Maliki said on Friday that the strikes targeted Houthi capabilities and included the destruction of three rocket launch platforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are working to dismantle and destroy the ballistic missile network of the terrorist Houthi militia,\u201d Al Maliki said in a post on X, accompanied by footage of the air strikes.<\/p>\n

He said coalition forces were providing round-the-clock air support to Yemeni government forces, including in the strategic Bab El Mandeb area.<\/p>\n

In other posts, the coalition spokesperson shared footage of coalition air strikes hitting Houthi fighters attempting to conceal themselves in the Bab El Mandeb area.<\/p>\n

Other footage showed what he described as Houthi fighters fleeing their positions as government forces advanced with coalition air support.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe destroyed 3 rocket launch platforms used by the Houthi militia to threaten regional security,\u201d he said, adding that attacks on civilians and civilian facilities would be met with resolve.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Yemeni government forces have taken control of Bab El Mandeb and Mayun Island after clearing the area, Al Arabiya<\/em> reported, citing military sources.<\/p>\n

Addressing an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Saudi Arabia\u2019s UN representative, Abdulaziz Alwasil, said Riyadh would not allow Yemen to become a launchpad for threats against Saudi territory or freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and Bab El Mandeb Strait.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed the kingdom\u2019s right to defend its sovereignty while calling for a political settlement and enforcement of the arms embargo on the Houthis.<\/p>\n

His remarks followed two attacks on Riyadh\u2019s King Khalid International Airport on Thursday that killed three Saudi nationals and injured several others.<\/p>\n

Saudi officials said the attacks targeted airport facilities and an aircraft belonging to the national carrier.<\/p>\n

UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg warned that civilians, including women and children, were bearing the brunt of escalating violence.<\/p>\n

At least 46 civilians have been killed and more than 130 injured since August, according to the UN.<\/p>\n

Grundberg urged Security Council members to support mediation efforts, warning that battlefield gains could not replace negotiations needed to end the conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnless war is to become Yemen\u2019s permanent reality, the time to consider political strategies is now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Yemen\u2019s internationally recognised government called on the Security Council to take decisive measures to curb the flow of funding, weapons and technology to the Houthis, saying the threat had extended beyond Yemen\u2019s internal affairs.<\/p>\n
