Elon Musk<\/strong><\/a> said he would price Starlink\u2019s satellite internet service affordably in India to take on Mukesh Ambani\u2019s low-cost Reliance Jio, \u200bescalating his attacks on the rival billionaire days before Jio\u2019s parent \u200claunches India\u2019s largest-ever IPO.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jio Platforms, which owns the telecom arm, is targeting a valuation of $106 billion<\/a> in the offering.<\/p>\n

Much like SpaceX-owned Starlink, Jio\u2019s own satellite venture is also awaiting final \u200bsecurity clearance to launch.<\/p>\n

Cheap data is the playbook that built Jio in \u200bIndia, and the one Musk has used in markets like Kenya<\/a> to \u2060unsettle local telecom players.<\/p>\n

SpaceX now plans to enter the mobile carrier market \u200bitself, starting in the US<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Musk did not specify prices for India, where mobile data \u200bcosts about 8 cents per gigabyte, among the lowest in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, if Starlink is too expensive in India, no one will buy it, so SpaceX will need to make pricing \u200baffordable,\u201d he said in a post on his social media platform X \u200bon Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality is that competition would greatly benefit the average citizen in India by giving \u200cthem \u2060more choices, as it always does. Ambani\u2019s profits will be lower, but he is not going out of business,\u201d Musk added.<\/p>\n

The billionaire\u2019s remarks were the latest in a series of X posts<\/a> where he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s \u200bgovernment and Ambani \u200bof stalling Starlink\u2019s \u2060entry into one of the world\u2019s biggest internet markets to favour market leader Jio.<\/p>\n

The posts have marked a sharp turn \u200bfor Musk, who has long enjoyed a warm public rapport \u200bwith Modi.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s \u2060government has denied any bias in its approval process, noting that the three satellite ventures seeking to launch, including Starlink\u2019s and Jio\u2019s, are all awaiting final security \u2060clearance.<\/p>\n

Late on \u200bFriday, Musk taunted Ambani directly, addressing him as \u201cPrime \u200bMinister Ambani\u201d and asking whether he would \u201cconsider allowing Starlink to compete\u201d.<\/p>\n
