{"id":2515,"date":"2026-10-11T18:04:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-11T13:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2515"},"modified":"2026-10-11T18:04:00","modified_gmt":"2026-10-11T13:04:00","slug":"protesters-seeking-india-election-chiefs-ouster-detained-as-cockroach-leaders-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2515","title":{"rendered":"Protesters seeking India election chief&#8217;s ouster detained, as &#8216;cockroach&#8217; leaders released"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>Police detained hundreds of protesters in Delhi for asecond day on Sunday as sporadic protests broke out demanding India\u2019s election chief quit, and a court ordered the release of \u201ccockroach\u201d movement founder Abhijeet Dipke and two other senior leaders.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dipke and the other Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) \u200bleaders were detained when their plane landed in Delhi on Saturday \u2060as the movement planned to gather thousands of people at Jantar Mantar in \u200bCentral Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>The court ordered their release with an undertaking to \u201cmaintain public peace\u201d, the CJP \u200bsaid in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCockroaches never die,\u201d the group posted on its X account shortly after Dipke\u2019s release.<\/p>\n<p>Youth protesters, many of them from student organisations affiliated with India\u2019s communist parties, launched sporadic protests \u200baround the city on Sunday afternoon before police detained them and hauled them away \u200bin vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The All India Students\u2019 Association alleged in a post on X that those detained were \u200cassaulted \u2060by police inside the vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>A video posted on X by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) showed one of its lawmakers, John Brittas, being helped from a bus to an autorickshaw as he appeared to be in distress.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters could not verify claims about \u200bdetainees being assaulted \u200bby police.<\/p>\n<p>The Delhi \u2060Police spokesperson did not respond to calls made by Reuters to seek comment.<\/p>\n<p>The youth movement is one of the biggest political \u200bchallenges to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 12 years in \u200bpower, during \u2060which his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has repeatedly swept the polls and eliminated any serious challenge by opponents, including the Congress Party.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters are calling for the resignation of \u2060Chief Election \u200bCommissioner Gyanesh Kumar over a revision of voter lists that \u200bcritics say disproportionately benefits Modi.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police detained hundreds of protesters in Delhi for asecond day on Sunday as sporadic protests broke out demanding India\u2019s election chief quit, and a court ordered the release of \u201ccockroach\u201d movement founder Abhijeet Dipke and two other senior leaders.
