Actor RJ Mitte, whose personal experience \u200bliving with cerebral palsy informed his role as Walter White Jr., the physically disabled son of a methamphetamine \u200ckingpin in the landmark television series \u201cBreaking Bad,\u201d died on Monday at age 34.<\/strong><\/p>\n

News of Mitte\u2019s death in Brownsville, Texas, was confirmed in a statement released through the talent management agency that represented the actor. No other details about the circumstances of his death were given.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with profound sadness that \u200bwe share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

Mitte was best known for his breakout role on the AMC cable TV series \u201cBreaking Bad,\u201d playing the only son of actor Bryan Cranston\u2019s lead character, Walter White, a terminally ill high school teacher who descends into a secret life of crime cooking crystal meth.<\/p>\n

Drawing from his real-life background as a person with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought a rare measure of \u200bgenuineness to a television character whose physical disability was portrayed as largely incidental to the storyline.<\/p>\n

His performance as Walter \u201cFlynn\u201d White Jr., who walked with crutches and spoke with a slur, gained early attention from fans who dubbed him \u201cthe breakfast king\u201d for his recurring appearances in scenes around the family breakfast \u200btable.<\/p>\n

But his role grew in prominence as the story arc of the series progressed. He starts as a carefree teenager \u200bwho admires his father, then struggles to reckon with the family\u2019s disintegration as the truth about Walter White\u2019s meth-making \u201cHeisenberg\u201d alter ego emerges.<\/p>\n

\u201cMitte brought authenticity \u200cto \u2060the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion,\u201d the statement said, noting his affiliation with several philanthropic organisations devoted to cerebral palsy and other muscle-control disorders.<\/p>\n

The acclaimed series, often cited by critics as one of the best television dramas of all time, ran from 2008 to 2013, garnering 16 Emmy Awards, including two for best drama series.<\/p>\n

Mitte later played a high school wrestler \u200bwith cerebral palsy in the \u200b2021 coming-of-age film \u201cTriumph.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mitte, whose credits \u2060also include the films \u201cThe Recall\u201d and \u201cThe Oak Room,\u201d had been working to promote a new movie, \u201cTalking to Strangers,\u201d appearing as a podcast guest to discuss the film in recent days, according to \u200bHollywood trade publication Variety.<\/p>\n

Off screen, Mitte served as a Screen Actors Guild spokesman for performers with disabilities and was a celebrity ambassador for the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.<\/p>\n

Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Mitte suffered brain damage at birth, was adopted as an infant and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 3.<\/p>\n

He was fitted with leg braces and crutches for much of his childhood, \u2060but through \u200bathletics and exercise eventually outgrew his need for walking devices.<\/p>\n
