North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a defence industry museum displaying an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the United States, state media KCNA showed on \u200bTuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The report came a day after US President Donald Trump<\/a> said he might meet Kim during \u200ba planned trip to Asia. Trump is expected to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic \u2060Cooperation summit in China in mid-November.<\/p>\n

Kim, accompanied by his daughter, known as Ju Ae and wife \u200bRi Sol Ju, attended the opening of the newly opened Defence Revolution Museum on Sunday, KCNA said.<\/p>\n

The museum \u200bdisplayed weaponry developed under Kim\u2019s leadership ranging from drones to the Hwasong-20<\/a> intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), KCNA photographs showed.<\/p>\n

A display in front of the Hwasong-20 launcher appeared to show a multiple warhead design and a world map depicting ranges extending beyond \u200bthe US mainland to the Middle East, Australia and South America, said Shin Jong-woo, Secretary General \u200bof the Korea Defence and Security Forum.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe exhibition appears intended to highlight the achievements of Kim\u2019s defence science development programme,\u201d \u200cShin \u2060said. \u201cIt gave the impression of propaganda aimed at gaining a strategic advantage ahead of a potential North Korea-US summit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Analysts said the museum also reflected a broader effort by Kim to elevate North Korea\u2019s weapons displays into lasting symbols of the regime\u2019s military accomplishments.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy turning what were once temporary weapons exhibitions into \u200ba permanent museum, Kim is \u200binstitutionalising his military \u2060achievements and portraying North Korea\u2019s nuclear and missile buildup as a completed and enduring legacy,\u201d said Lim Eul-chul, a professor at Kyungnam University\u2019s Institute for Far \u200bEastern Studies.<\/p>\n

Separately, North Korea said it test-fired a tactical ballistic missile on \u200bMonday to confirm \u2060the successful technical upgrade of an unspecified key component.<\/p>\n

KCNA said the upgrade marked an important step in improving the performance of all offensive weapons systems, without providing further details.<\/p>\n

South Korea\u2019s military said on Monday that \u2060North Korea \u200bhad fired multiple ballistic missiles towards the sea off its \u200beast coast.
