Under \u200bIndian law, foreigners\u2019 participation in political protests may be \u200btreated as a violation of immigration and visa \u2060rules.<\/p>\n<p>Khan was given until October 28 to leave the country, \u200bthe Times of India newspaper said<\/p>\n<p>The actor participated in a \u200brally in Mumbai on October 10, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/india\/india-poll-chief-gyanesh-kumar-under-pressure-over-alleged-manipulation-2026-09-28\/\">Gyanesh Kumar<\/a> over <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/india\/why-has-drive-verify-indias-billion-voters-put-poll-body-under-scrutiny-2026-10-09\/\">voter list revisions<\/a> that critics and opposition parties say \u200bfavour Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s party<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApparently I\u2019m going for \u200ba drive,\u201d the actor wrote on his Instagram on the same day, \u200cwith \u2060a picture of him posing with a victory sign in the back of what looked like a police van<\/p>\n<p>A complaint was filed against him at a police station in Mumbai, \u200bsaying Khan had \u200bbreached the \u2060law, and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office, a federal government agency responsible for tracking and \u200bmonitoring foreign nationals in India, sent him a notice \u200bto \u2060leave based on the complaint, the Indian Express said<\/p>\n<p>Khan did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters<\/p>\n<p>A nephew of \u2060actor \u200bAamir Khan, and hailing from an \u200billustrious film family, Imran acted in several hit Bollywood films from 2008 to \u200b2015, before suddenly retiring<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indian authorities have asked Bollywood actor Imran Khan to leave the country by the end of the \u200bmonth, saying he breached immigration laws after joining a \u200cprotest against the election commission chief, local media reported on Thursday.
