Celebrated actor Al Pacino will receive a lifetime achievement award for his career achievements and humanitarian work next year, the actors\u2019 union SAG-AFTRA announced on \u200bThursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The American actor, best known for playing Michael Corleone in \u201cThe Godfather\u201d films, is \u200cthe 62nd recipient of the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award.<\/p>\n

The union will present the award to him in Los Angeles at the 33rd Actor Awards on February 28, 2027, as part of a ceremony to be \u200blive-streamed on Netflix.<\/p>\n

Pacino\u2019s recognition follows a career spanning more than six decades across film, \u200btelevision, and stage. He is known for numerous memorable characters, including real-life police \u2060officer Frank Serpico in 1973\u2019s \u201cSerpico,\u201d Miami mobster Tony Montana in 1983\u2019s \u201cScarface\u201d and more recently Hollywood \u200bagent Marvin Schwarz in Quentin Tarantino\u2019s 2019 film \u201cOnce Upon a Time \u2026 in Hollywood.\u201d<\/p>\n

The award is presented \u200bannually to an actor who embodies the \u201cfinest ideals of the acting profession,\u201d according to the union.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wondered and wandered most of my life but have always felt at home with a script and my fellow actors,\u201d \u200bPacino said in a statement from the actors\u2019 union.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the work and the actors along the \u200bway that have been among the greatest joys of my life. It\u2019s an honour to be recognised by \u200cSAG-AFTRA in celebrating the journey,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Pacino won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance as Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in the 1992 film \u201cScent of a Woman,\u201d and has also won multiple Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe awards.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike so many actors, I have spent my life in awe and \u200bappreciation of the force \u200bof nature that \u2060is Al Pacino. When you watch him perform, you are witnessing a student and a master,\u201d SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin added in the statement.<\/p>\n

Pacino \u200balso participated in the \u201cAmerica: A Tribute to Heroes\u201d telethon following the September \u200b11, 2001 \u2060attacks, and in 2009 received the Arthritis Foundation\u2019s Jane Wyman Humanitarian Award for his charitable work.<\/p>\n

The 86-year-old actor was born Alfredo James Pacino in New York. He struggled throughout the 1960s to find \u2060steady work \u200bbefore his eventual film breakthrough in 1972\u2019s \u201cThe Godfather.\u201d<\/p>\n
