Olympic gold medallist javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem and Asian Championship 2023 bronze medallist Yasir Sultan will be in action in the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh at 11:05 pm tonight.<\/p>\n

The javelin throw final will start at 11:05 pm Pakistani time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Arshad and Yasir will be the center of attention in the javelin throw final at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Arshad won the gold medal and created games record last time with a throw of 88.55m in Konya in 2022.<\/p>\n

There are only five other throwers in the competition besides the two Pakistanis.<\/p>\n

It would be shocking if they do not get podium finishes as none of the other throwers have had a better throw than 79m.<\/p>\n

Only true competitor for third spot, with Arshad first and Yasir second, in terms of their records, is Guyana’s 38-year-old Leslain Baird, who had a throw of 78.65m in 2018.<\/p>\n

Previously, Arshad failed to live up to expectations in the World Athletics Championship with a throw of 82.75m, where he finished 10th.<\/p>\n

After the performance in Tokyo, Arshad sent a message to the nation, that he felt bad for letting the country down, and mentioned that he had to recover from a calf injury for which he also underwent a surgery and it was difficult task for him to win a medal among the top throwers of the world in September.<\/p>\n

However, now he is fully fit and a strong candidate to win the gold medal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Yasir Sultan, who won the bronze medal in the Asian Throwing Championship, also has his eyes set on the gold medal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Arshad’s coach Salman Butt is in Riyadh with both athletes, Yasir Sultan’s coach Syed Fayyaz Bukhari has not been sent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Butt was handed a life-time ban by the Athletics Federation of Pakistan in October for illegally extending his tenure as the Punjab Athletics Association president by holding unconstitutional elections.<\/p>\n

Pakistan has so far won only two bronze medals by boxers Fatima Zahra and Qudratullah.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the medal tally, Turkey is in first place with 65 gold and a total of 130 medals, while, Uzbekistan are second with 25 gold medals and a total of 79 medals, and Iran are third with 21 gold and 62 total medals.<\/p>\n
