{"id":2862,"date":"2026-10-17T21:03:53","date_gmt":"2026-10-17T16:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2862"},"modified":"2026-10-17T21:03:53","modified_gmt":"2026-10-17T16:03:53","slug":"saudi-arabia-says-intercepted-drones-over-riyadh-other-regions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=2862","title":{"rendered":"Saudi Arabia says intercepted drones over Riyadh, other regions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that it had intercepted four drones, including over the capital Riyadh, as the country comes under repeated fire from Yemen\u2019s Houthis.<\/p>\n<p>Riyadh leads a military coalition supporting Yemen\u2019s internationally recognised government in its civil war with the Iran-backed Houthis.<\/p>\n<p>Since the conflict flared back to life in July after a years-long hiatus, the kingdom has faced sustained Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting its oil installations, tankers and airports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have intercepted and destroyed four drones over the past few hours in the regions of Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and the South,\u201d coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia has accused Iran of encouraging the Houthis\u2019 recent escalation, a charge Tehran denies.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Saturday that Tehran supported a \u201ccomprehensive political process as the only practical and sustainable way to resolve\u201d the conflict on the Arabian Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>He also repeated Iran\u2019s offer to mediate between the two sides.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh previously said Riyadh has not responded to Iran\u2019s overture.<\/p>\n<p>The Houthis are part of Iran\u2019s \u201cAxis of Resistance\u201d against Israel and the United States, but both they and Tehran insist the group acts independently.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia has carried out retaliatory airstrikes on the Houthis in Yemen, where government forces are seeking to roll back gains the group made in a lightning offensive in September.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, a Houthi-affiliated news agency accused Saudi warplanes of targeting \u201ccivilian residences\u201d in Dhamar and Taiz provinces, killing 12 people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that it had intercepted four drones, including over the capital Riyadh, as the country comes under repeated fire from Yemen\u2019s Houthis.
