Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said achieving peace between the United States and Iran requires patience, trust and sustained efforts, stressing that lasting peace cannot be secured in a single meeting.

“Peace cannot be achieved in a single meeting. It requires patience, trust and continuous efforts,” Naqvi said while addressing the 8th Global Security Forum in Doha, Qatar, on Monday.

He said Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani had worked for more than 16 hours without a break during the Swiss peace talks.

Naqvi said Pakistan had made every possible effort to bring Washington and Tehran to the negotiating table, despite moments of heightened tension during the process.

He credited the Field Marshal’s personal efforts and international relationships with helping pave the way for negotiations, adding that Pakistan had remained committed to dialogue even when the situation became difficult.

Describing the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement (MJDA) as a commitment to regional stability, the interior minister said the pact was intended to promote peace rather than war.

He said the agreement reflected Pakistan’s resolve to contribute to regional security and stressed that negotiations remained preferable to armed conflict.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye signed the MJDA on August 7 during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence.

Under the agreement, an armed attack against any one of the three signatories is to be treated as an attack against all three, establishing a mutual-defence commitment among the countries.

Naqvi also praised Qatar’s diplomatic efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran, describing its role as valuable in efforts to ease tensions.

He said terrorism remained a global challenge that required coordinated international action, noting that Pakistan had suffered heavy losses from terrorism and continued to contribute to international peacekeeping missions.

The interior minister outlined three key lessons Pakistan had learned from its experience: keeping the doors to dialogue open, building trust between negotiating parties and ensuring sincere efforts by all sides to achieve peace.

He reiterated that Pakistan would continue to support diplomatic engagement and peaceful solutions, stressing that lasting stability required patience, mutual trust and sustained cooperation.

The forum, held under the theme “The Future of Alliances”, brings together senior officials and dignitaries from more than 100 countries.
