The case is one of several Trump \u200bhas privately filed against the news media as part of a wider pressure campaign against coverage \u200bhe dislikes.<\/p>\n<p>US Magistrate Judge Enjolique Lett ordered Trump to take questions from \u2060the <em>BBC\u2019s<\/em> lawyers under oath in a ruling from the bench at a court \u200bhearing on Thursday, according to the <em>AP.<\/em> Trump cancelled a deposition in October, citing conflicts with his \u200bpresidential duties.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives for Trump\u2019s legal team and the <em>BBC<\/em> did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawsuit filed in December in Florida federal court accuses the <em>BBC<\/em> of intentionally misleading viewers into thinking he \u200bdirected supporters to storm the US Capitol by splicing together different parts of a \u200bJanuary 6, 2021 speech.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>BBC<\/em> admitted the edits were misleading and apologised to Trump, though it denies \u200cbeing liable \u2060for defamation.<\/p>\n<p>In court filings, the broadcaster has accused Trump and his lawyers of dragging their feet in response to their requests for records and other information that is exchanged between parties in a process known as discovery.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>BBC<\/em> is seeking financial records from Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago \u200bclub and the \u200bweb of business entities \u2060associated with him, saying the information is necessary to defend against Trump\u2019s damages claims.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawyers say the requests are too broad and \u200birrelevant to the case. They have also denied in court filings \u200bthat Trump \u2060is avoiding a deposition, saying Trump\u2019s duties and security needs must take precedence.<\/p>\n<p>The edited speech appeared in a <em>BBC<\/em> \u201cPanorama\u201d documentary show shortly before the 2024 presidential election, which Trump won.
