The errors of judgement were contrary to the values of the Defence Force,\u201d Davies said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese matters revolved \u200baround an inappropriate relationship I had when \u200bin a position of unit command, and I regret \u200cnot \u2060disclosing this when I had the opportunity to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vice Chief Mat Williams would serve as acting chief, the Defence Force\u2019s statement \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Goldsmith said \u200bhe agreed \u2060Davies\u2019 position was \u201cno longer tenable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reasons regarding his decision relate to \u200bintegrity matters that he did not \u200bpreviously \u2060disclose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will be recommending to the Governor-General that she accepts Mr Davies\u2019 resignation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davies joined \u2060New \u200bZealand\u2019s military in 1984 \u200band was appointed to the top job in 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The chief of New Zealand\u2019s Defence Force resigned on Friday over an \u201cinappropriate relationship\u201d \u200bhe failed to disclose while in a \u200cposition of command.
