Jordanian security forces have arrested three suspects in connection with an attack on a church in \u200bthe US-allied country that killed nine people, state television reported on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u200cattack, in which gunmen opened fire during a funeral at a Greek Orthodox church on Friday in the village of Hamoud in Karak governorate, about 120 km southwest of the \u200bcapital Amman, also wounded 40 others. The shooting lasted several minutes, witnesses said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u200bJordan\u2019s Public Security Directorate said security forces located the three suspects \u2060early on Monday hiding in an abandoned house in Karak. The suspects refused \u200bto surrender and opened fire on security forces, who returned fire and arrested all \u200bthree after they were wounded, the directorate said in a statement carried on state media.<\/p>\n

No security personnel were injured, and several firearms and ammunition were found in the \u200bsuspects\u2019 possession after their arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cTerrorism has no place among us,\u201d the directorate said, \u200badding that the suspects had met their \u201cjust fate\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Public Security Directorate did not identify the suspects\u2019 \u200caffiliation \u2060or say whether they belonged to any militant group.<\/p>\n

Jordanian authorities have said the attack was carried out by \u201cextremist terrorists\u201d, but it was too early to determine whether they had links to known groups inside or outside Jordan. There has been \u200bno claim of responsibility.<\/p>\n

\u200bInterior Minister Mazen \u2060al-Faraya said on Monday authorities were reviewing the circumstances that led young people towards extremism and would hold accountable anyone \u200bfound to have participated in the attack.<\/p>\n

King Abdullah, a \u200bUS partner \u2060in the fight against Islamist militant groups, has ordered security forces to respond with an \u201ciron fist\u201d to the rare attack on Jordan\u2019s Christian minority.<\/p>\n
