President Donald Trump at a Sunday campaign rally ratcheted up \u200bhis push to link US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed to Muslim extremists, comparing him to the 9\/11 attackers while saying Democrats would let violent anti-American \u200cterrorists into the United States.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m here to keep a jihadist (sic), Muslim Brotherhood member from becoming a United States senator,\u201d the president told a receptive audience in Port Huron, which is in a Michigan area where 66% of the vote went to Trump in the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n

If El-Sayed wins, he would be the first Muslim elected to the US Senate. Trump has sought to paint him as an anti-American Muslim radical, and \u200bon Sunday he took the rhetoric to a new level, likening El-Sayed to the attackers who took over United Flight 93 during the September 11, 2001, attacks.<\/p>\n

Michigan has \u200bone of the nation\u2019s most competitive US Senate contests going into the November 3 midterm elections, with former US Representative Mike Rogers, a \u2060Republican, and El-Sayed vying for an open seat that will help to decide control of the chamber.<\/p>\n

The president on Sunday compared voting against El-Sayed to the actions of Michigan native \u200bTodd Beamer and others who fought back against the Flight 93 hijackers.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwenty-five years later, Michigan needs to stand up and fight, just like Todd did, to stop a jihadist (sic) from walking into \u200bthe Capitol,\u201d said Trump.<\/p>\n

If El-Sayed wins, \u201che would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he\u2019s allowed to go in the Senate,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

El-Sayed has dismissed the accusations against him, and at a Sunday night event, he suggested that Trump\u2019s frequent emphasis of El-Sayed\u2019s name contains a measure of hypocrisy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get that the president of the United States takes personal offence to my first name,\u201d El-Sayed \u200btold an audience in Grand Rapids, Michigan.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t mind as much when it\u2019s a shared name from the Saudis who are funding his son-in-law\u2019s private equity; he doesn\u2019t seem to mind \u200bas much when it\u2019s the Qataris who are giving him a $400 million private jet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Affinity Partners, Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner\u2019s investment fund, has reportedly received billions from a Saudi Government entity<\/a>. Qatar gifted Trump a Boeing 747 jet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Questioning loyalty shameful: El Sayed<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The mostly White crowd at Sunday\u2019s rally cheered Trump\u2019s comments on El-Sayed.<\/p>\n

Some attendees yelled \u201ctraitor\u201d, and others yelled \u201cdeport,\u201d although El-Sayed was born in Michigan.<\/p>\n

El-Sayed has denied affiliation with the Muslim \u200bBrotherhood, saying it is \u201cshameful\u201d to question his allegiance to the United States.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s speech in eastern Michigan on Sunday came a day after former President Barack Obama campaigned for Democrats in the state, underscoring its importance in next week\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n

At a Saturday rally<\/a> in Detroit, Obama framed the attacks by El-Sayed\u2019s opponents as an attempt to make him look \u201cless American \u2060than they \u200bare.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former president compared them to his own experience as the target of false claims<\/a> that he was born in Kenya.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis \u200bstuff didn\u2019t work on me,\u201d Obama said. \u201cNot in Michigan. It\u2019s not going to work on Abdul.\u201d<\/p>\n
