Days after launching its first folding iPhone, Apple acknowledged on Monday that some of the devices exhibit display problems and \u200bsaid it will replace them.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Apple started shipping the iPhone Duo last week, \u200cwith customers around the world lining up for tight inventory<\/a> after initial online orders sold out in minutes.<\/p>\n

Analysts have said Apple is likely to face supply constraints because the iPhone Duo, which unfolds like \u200ba passport booklet, is complex to manufacture.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, social media posts showed \u200bthe iPhone Duo with cracks and lines in the inner display along \u2060the central hinge where the iPhone Duo folds.<\/p>\n

Apple acknowledged the problems on Monday, saying \u200baffected units tend to show the problem quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are aware of an issue impacting the \u200binner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units,\u201d Apple said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apple did not comment on \u200bwhat might cause the issue.<\/p>\n

iFixit, a firm that publishes teardown reports of electronic devices \u200balong with guides on how to repair them, said it used teardown footage, patents and CT scans \u200cto \u2060construct a 3D simulation of the iPhone Duo hinge that it compared with the reported damage locations.<\/p>\n

iFixit said its simulations found the reported damage clustered just below where a display cable runs under the screen near a central support bar.<\/p>\n

That bar might be \u200bfailing to drop out \u200bof the screen\u2019s \u2060way as the phone is folded, \u201ccreating a small stress hotspot near the reported break location,\u201d the company said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Apple did not immediately comment on \u200biFixit\u2019s findings, which also concluded that the iPhone Duo is the \u200bmost repairable \u2060foldable phone that it has tested.<\/p>\n

Francisco Jeronimo, a vice president at market research firm IDC, said Apple\u2019s quick replacement offer was the \u201cright first step\u201d in responding to the problems.<\/p>\n
