The government has directed the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) to advance pending cases related to medicine prices after an individual review of the cases was nearly completed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The development came during a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Establishment Division Senator Ahsan Cheema to review pending pricing cases and the existing drug pricing formula.<\/p>\n

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the individual review of pending cases has almost been completed. Cheema welcomed the progress and instructed the relevant authorities to move the cases forward for further action.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Flu vaccine availability and pricing<\/h3>\n

The meeting was informed that influenza vaccines effective against three virus strains recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) were available in sufficient quantities in the market.<\/p>\n

DRAP had withdrawn its request for a concessionary price determination for the vaccine, as prices were already controlled in the international market, according to the ministry.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Review of drug pricing formula<\/h3>\n

Officials informed the meeting that DRAP was reviewing the existing medicine pricing formula and identifying factors that could hinder fair and accurate price determination.<\/p>\n

Cheema also directed the authority to consider subscriptions to specialised pharmaceutical pricing databases to facilitate independent and more reliable assessments of medicine prices.<\/p>\n

He said providing relief to the public was the government\u2019s top priority and that unjustified price increases would not be acceptable.<\/p>\n

The minister added that comparing medicine prices with those in other countries could provide a useful benchmark. However, he stressed the need for independent assessment and an effective monitoring mechanism.<\/p>\n
