Some schools have been closed and \u2060some train and flight services cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>Arnab, classified by the India Meteorological \u200bDepartment as a very severe cyclonic storm, the third-highest category on its \u200bscale, started making landfall earlier than expected.<\/p>\n<p>The cyclone is \u201cpractically stationary\u201d, and while the edge of the storm has moved on to land, its centre remains over the Bay \u200bof Bengal, the agency said.<\/p>\n<p>Winds of 115-125 kph and gusts \u200bof up to 140 kph are forecast, with a storm surge of 1 to \u200c1.5 metres above normal tide likely to inundate low-lying areas of Andhra Pradesh, it said in a bulletin issued at 0630 local time.<\/p>\n<p>Operations at three Andhra Pradesh airports were suspended, India\u2019s civil aviation ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>In neighbouring \u200bNepal, authorities on \u200bTuesday warned tourists \u2060against venturing into high-altitude areas due to fears that Arnab could trigger torrential downpours, snowstorms and avalanches in \u200bthe Himalayan region from Thursday night through Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Arnab formed \u200bover \u2060the Bay of Bengal, a major region for tropical cyclones that has spawned deadly storms on India\u2019s east coast.<\/p>\n<p>A super cyclone that killed nearly 10,000 \u2060people \u200bwhen it hit Odisha in October 1999 remains \u200bone of the country\u2019s deadliest natural disasters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arnab, a powerful cyclone, has stalled close to India\u2019s east \u200bcoast, with landfall expected to last two more hours, authorities \u200csaid on Wednesday.
