{"id":3526,"date":"2026-10-30T11:03:56","date_gmt":"2026-10-30T06:03:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=3526"},"modified":"2026-10-30T11:03:56","modified_gmt":"2026-10-30T06:03:56","slug":"bhutan-glacial-lake-outburst-triggers-flood-no-injuries-reported","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=3526","title":{"rendered":"Bhutan glacial lake outburst triggers flood, no injuries reported"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>A flood caused by the Shintaphu glacial lake bursting its banks has washed \u200baway infrastructure at the Gasa Tshachu natural hot \u200csprings in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, media reports said on Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No injuries or loss of life have been reported, state \u200bbroadcaster BBS said.<\/p>\n<p>The hot springs at Gasa \u200bTshachu are a major tourist attraction in the \u2060northern part of the country that is nestled between \u200bIndia and China.<\/p>\n<p>BBS reported the extent of damage from \u200bthe late-night flash flood was not known because of \u201cdarkness and the strong flow\u201d of floodwaters.<\/p>\n<p>Two Bailey bridges \u2014 bridges built \u200bin portable, pre-fabricated sections \u2014 may have been washed away, \u200bthe broadcaster reported.<\/p>\n<p>Gasa Tshachu was also hit by a flash flood \u200cin \u20602021, when the Mochhu River changed course and swept through the area.<\/p>\n<p>Kuensel, Bhutan\u2019s national newspaper, said part of the road to Laya village where the springs are \u200blocated, had \u200bbeen washed away, \u2060making it impassable.
