{"id":3556,"date":"2026-10-30T23:04:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-30T18:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=3556"},"modified":"2026-10-30T23:04:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-30T18:04:10","slug":"oil-tanker-off-uae-coast-has-stopped-leaking-state-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=3556","title":{"rendered":"Oil tanker off UAE coast has stopped leaking: state media"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>A tanker that has been spilling crude oil into the Gulf since it was attacked on October 9 has stopped leaking, Emirati state news agency <em>WAM<\/em> said on Friday, citing the energy ministry.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to the latest field assessments, no new oil leakage has been detected from the tanker, while maritime and aerial monitoring operations are continuing,\u201d <em>WAM<\/em> said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the agency, satellite images captured on Friday show the oil slick is concentrated off the coast of Umm Al Quwain, an emirate north of Dubai, partially extending towards coastal areas in nearby emirates Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Sharjah.<\/p>\n<p>It said work was ongoing to contain and treat the oil slick, adding that the \u201cobserved concentration of pollution has declined significantly\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Satellite images taken on October 21 and analysed by <em>AFP<\/em> showed what appeared to be a slick of about 180 square kilometres. Three days later, images showed it had quadrupled in size to about 750 sq km.<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of the Middle East war in February with US-Israeli strikes on Iran, Tehran has claimed control over the Strait of Hormuz and regularly targets ships that transit there without its authorisation.<\/p>\n<p>The British maritime security agency UKMTO reported on October 9 that a vessel had been hit by a projectile off the UAE coast, causing a fire that was later brought under control.<\/p>\n<p>Maritime security company Vanguard identified the vessel as the oil tanker GEM NO.2, sailing under a Panamanian flag.<\/p>\n<p>Owned by Taiwan\u2019s Global Energy Maritime, the ship loaded two million barrels of oil in early March from a Saudi port.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A tanker that has been spilling crude oil into the Gulf since it was attacked on October 9 has stopped leaking, Emirati state news agency WAM said on Friday, citing the energy ministry. \u201cAccording to the latest field assessments, no new oil leakage has been detected from the tanker, while maritime and aerial monitoring operations are continuing,\u201d WAM said.
