President Donald Trump has said the United States will not launch \u200bnew attacks on Iran before the vote and that talks with Tehran have been \u200bproductive, though he has not ruled out further military action afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Foreign \u2060Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that the purpose of the \u201congoing and progressing\u201d talks \u200bwas to continue consultations with the Qatari mediators, adding Tehran is prepared for \u201cboth defence and diplomacy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking \u200bto state media, Araghchi said discussions on a \u201ctwo-day proposal\u201d were continuing, but that no final conclusion had been reached.<\/p>\n<p>Qatari broadcaster <em>Al Jazeera<\/em> quoted Araghchi as saying in an interview on Saturday that Iranian and Qatari \u200bnegotiators had developed a proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days \u200bof a potential agreement with Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Iran has repeatedly said it would respond to any new attacks by striking \u200cUS \u2060and Israeli targets in neighbouring countries, as the eight-month-old war continues to disrupt global oil supplies and spill over across the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are doing our best in this process, and we hope that there is rationality on the other side so that they prioritise diplomacy \u200bover other paths,\u201d Araghchi \u200bsaid of the \u2060talks with Qatari officials.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on Saturday ordered the armed forces to be prepared for any attack, while the \u200bmilitary later announced steps to strengthen its readiness.<\/p>\n<p>US Secretary of State \u200bMarco Rubio \u2060said on Saturday that Trump has not decided whether to launch new strikes against Iran, but would prefer to resolve the conflict diplomatically.<\/p>\n<p>Qatari mediators were in Tehran on Friday for discussions with \u2060Iranian \u200bofficials before moving the talks to Doha on Saturday, \u200ban official had told <em>Reuters<\/em>.
