Hegseth is already deeply unpopular \u200bin Congress, where some lawmakers are expected to seek his impeachment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason \u200bwe lost is the war,\u201d Vance said on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, \u200bthen do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance also said an earlier recommendation to end the war \u200bwas \u201csound advice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats secured control of both the Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday, scoring sweeping \u200cvictories \u2060in Republican strongholds for the first time in generations.<\/p>\n<p>Voters in conservative bastions who had propelled the president to his second term in office just two years ago swung dramatically toward Democrats, fueled by deep frustration over the \u200bwar with Iran, anxiety \u200bover the high \u2060cost of living and anger at Trump\u2019s stewardship of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Vance sought to play down any difference of \u200bopinion with Trump, saying the president had also acknowledged \u200bthat the \u2060Iran war cost Republicans the midterm elections on Tuesday.
