Jailed former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak\u2019s fine has been paid as part \u200bof the terms of a royal pardon, his \u200cpolitical party said on Friday, paving the way for his transfer to house arrest.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Najib, prime minister from 2009 to 2018, was found \u200bguilty of corruption in relation to the embezzlement of \u200bbillions of dollars tied to 1Malaysia Development Berhad<\/a>, a \u2060state investment fund he co-founded while in power. He has \u200bconsistently denied wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

Malaysia\u2019s king agreed in September to allow jailed \u200bNajib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, in a second royal pardon<\/a> over his conviction.<\/p>\n

It was not immediately clear when \u200bthe transfer to Najib\u2019s home would take place, and \u200ban aide to the former premier did not immediately respond to a request \u200cfor \u2060comment.<\/p>\n

Under the terms of the pardon, Najib was required to pay a 50 million ringgit fine, which his political party, the United Malays National Organisation, said had been \u200bpaid after a \u200bfundraising campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cUMNO \u2060has completed all payment processes to the Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
