US President Donald Trump has blamed Democrats for a sharp sell-off on Wall Street following the midterm elections, claiming the results triggered one of the worst days in stock market history and caused losses in Americans\u2019 retirement savings.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a series of posts on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump linked the market decline to Democratic gains in the elections and criticised voters for the outcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Stock Market crashed today because the Dumocrats had a big Tuesday \u2014 So sad to see, you only have yourselves to blame!\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n

He described the downturn as one of the worst in history and said retirement accounts had also lost value.<\/p>\n

Despite the losses, Trump expressed confidence that the market would recover and become stronger.<\/p>\n

The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 1,833 points, or 3.44 per cent, to close at 51,523.06.<\/p>\n

The S&P 500 fell 4.36 per cent to 7,353.73, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 5.52 per cent to 24,315.00, according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Why did US stocks fall?<\/h3>\n

According to Reuters, heavy selling in technology and artificial intelligence-related shares drove the decline as investors assessed the possible impact of Democratic gains on the sector.<\/p>\n

Concerns that a Congress led by Democrats could increase scrutiny of AI infrastructure and impose restrictions on data centre development weighed on technology and semiconductor stocks.<\/p>\n

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell around 12 per cent, while Nvidia shares declined approximately 9 per cent. The sell-off erased an estimated $2.5 trillion in Nasdaq market value, Reuters reported.<\/p>\n

The decline reversed a rally on November 4, when US equities rose following the election results.<\/p>\n

Investors had initially welcomed reduced political uncertainty, although concerns about potential regulatory changes continued to weigh on data centre-related stocks.<\/p>\n

While Trump blamed Democrats for the losses, market reports pointed to concerns over AI investments, technology valuations and possible restrictions on data centre expansion as key factors behind the sell-off.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
