{"id":3938,"date":"2025-04-15T18:04:38","date_gmt":"2025-04-15T18:04:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=3938"},"modified":"2025-04-15T18:04:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T18:04:38","slug":"trump-threatens-to-remove-harvards-tax-exempt-status-over-policy-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=3938","title":{"rendered":"Trump threatens to remove Harvard&#8217;s tax-exempt status over policy dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to strip Harvard of its tax-exempt status after the elite US university refused to accept far-reaching policy changes ordered by the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Trump had already moved to freeze $2.2 billion of federal funds on Monday in retaliation for the top university\u2019s defiance of the administration\u2019s push to bring campuses to heel.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said Harvard \u201cshould lose its Tax Exempt Status and be Taxed as a Political Entity\u201d if it does not submit to his demands for the college to change the way it runs itself, including selection of students and authority for professors.<\/p>\n<p>Tax-exempt status is \u201ctotally contingent on acting in the PUBLIC INTEREST,\u201d he added in the post on his Truth Social network.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to students and faculty, Harvard president Alan Garber had vowed to defy the government, insisting that the school would not \u201cnegotiate over its independence or its constitutional rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism responded Monday with a statement announcing the $2.2 billion hold in multi-year grants, plus a freeze on $60 million in government contracts.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to strip Harvard of its tax-exempt status after the elite US university refused to accept far-reaching policy changes ordered by the White House.
