Have you been? If you\u2019ve been and you still feel that way after you come back, please, let\u2019s have a conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The message was crystal clear: critique is welcome but only if you\u2019ve left the atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>King expressed that she was \u201cvery disappointed and very saddened\u201d by the negative reactions she&#8217;s seen, including\u00a0from people she considers friends.<\/p>\n<p>While she didn\u2019t name names, some A-list detractors made their opinions very public.<\/p>\n<p>Olivia Munn questioned the environmental impact of what she called a \u201cgluttonous\u201d 11-minute trip and noted the insensitivity of such an extravagance during a time when \u201csome people can\u2019t afford eggs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Olivia Wilde chimed in post-flight, sharing a photo of Katy Perry with the caption:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBillion dollars bought some good memes, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And Emily Ratajkowski went even harder, saying she was \u201cdisgusted\u201d by the whole thing in a TikTok video:<br \/>\n\u201cIt was \u2018beyond parody\u2019 to claim that the event was \u2018about Mother Earth\u2019 when you\u2019re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that\u2019s singlehandedly destroying the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>@emrata<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\u266c original sound &#8211; Emrata<\/p>\n<p>In response to the criticism, King also raised the issue of sexism in the public discourse surrounding the mission.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out that many referred to her experience as a \u201cride,\u201d something she believes would not have been said had she been a man.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was nothing frivolous about what she did,\u201d she insisted.<\/p>\n<p>And while some celebrities took jabs at the mission\u2019s purpose and price tag, King emphasized that the journey had a meaningful impact on others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo many women, girls, even men reached out to say, \u2018I now think I can go to space too.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for the cost of the trip, Blue Origin declined to say who paid what, though a spokesperson confirmed that some passengers purchased their seats.<\/p>\n<p>Still, as King sees it, the bigger picture is about possibility\u2014and she&#8217;s unapologetic about being part of the mission.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s about access, optics, or environmental ethics, Gayle\u2019s stance is clear: if you haven\u2019t been to space, maybe don\u2019t come for those who have.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gayle King is firing back at critics of her recent Blue Origin space flight, and she\u2019s not holding back.
