{"id":4019,"date":"2025-04-16T12:00:17","date_gmt":"2025-04-16T12:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=4019"},"modified":"2025-04-16T12:00:17","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T12:00:17","slug":"ellen-pompeo-on-why-she-wont-ever-leave-greys-anatomy-everyone-will-profit-except-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=4019","title":{"rendered":"Ellen Pompeo on why she won&#8217;t ever leave &#8216;Grey&#8217;s Anatomy, &#8220;Everyone will profit&#8230;except me&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Ellen Pompeo is finally breaking down why walking away from Grey\u2019s Anatomy completely was never an option, for her heart or her bank account.<\/p>\n<p>In a new interview with Spanish publication El Pa\u00eds, Pompeo explained that even though she stepped down as a full-time cast member after Season 19 (which aired in 2022), she\u2019s stayed close to the series with voiceovers and occasional appearances for a reason: quitting entirely just wouldn\u2019t make sense.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe show was streamed more than a billion times in 2024 \u2013 more than a billion times,\u201d the actress emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>Pompeo, now 55, didn\u2019t hold back about the financial imbalance she sees behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe companies that own the show and stream the show make a lot of money from our images and our voices and our faces,\u201d she said. \u201cIf I were to walk away completely, everybody gets to make money from my hard work for 20 years and I wouldn\u2019t make any money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Known for playing Dr. Meredith Grey for two decades, Pompeo also serves as an executive producer.<\/p>\n<p>And she knows exactly what her continued presence means to fans and the franchise alike.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo me, it doesn\u2019t make any sense that everybody else gets to profit off of my hard work,\u201d she told El Pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd emotionally, the show means a lot to people. I want to have an attitude of gratitude toward the show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Outside the hospital scrubs, Pompeo has also been exploring darker, more complex roles\u2014like her portrayal of Kristine Barnett in Hulu\u2019s Good American Family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, this is a limited series, so I won&#8217;t appear as this character again,\u201d she confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just looking for something that was very different from Meredith Grey, and this offer presented itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, no matter what new projects come her way, Pompeo is keeping one foot firmly planted in the Grey\u2019s universe\u2014because walking away entirely would mean everyone wins but her.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ellen Pompeo is finally breaking down why walking away from Grey\u2019s Anatomy completely was never an option, for her heart or her bank account.
