{"id":4363,"date":"2025-04-19T12:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-19T12:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=4363"},"modified":"2025-04-19T12:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-19T12:04:09","slug":"cm-murad-reaffirms-sindhs-united-opposition-to-canal-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=4363","title":{"rendered":"CM Murad reaffirms Sindh\u2019s united opposition to canal projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah reaffirmed his province\u2019s united opposition to the proposed canal projects, declaring that the people of Sindh will not back down from their stance.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the media in Sehwan and Bhan Saeedabad, CM Sindh said that the people of Sindh are \u201cfully united and actively protesting\u201d against the construction of new canals, a plan that has triggered growing political and public backlash in the province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not just the government\u2019s stance \u2014 the people of Sindh have made it clear: we reject these canals,\u201d CM Sindh stated. \u201cWe are not stepping back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CM Sindh added that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has consistently opposed the project, pointing to recent statements made in the National Assembly by party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChairman Bilawal has already made it absolutely clear in parliament \u2014 these canals cannot be supported under any circumstance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also referred to the recent by-election in Umerkot, saying the voters had given \u201ca clear message\u201d by rallying behind the PPP, despite attempts by what he called \u201cconspiratorial elements\u201d to divide the province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSocial media has been saying only the PPP can stop these canals \u2014 and that is true,\u201d CM Sindh added. \u201cBecause their approval was obtained by the caretaker government through IRSA, not by the elected representatives of the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Minister welcomed those protesting the canal project, saying peaceful demonstrations were a democratic right. However, he warned that \u201ccertain elements are trying to twist this issue into a conspiracy against the PPP.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Referring to recent political gatherings, CM Sindh highlighted the PPP\u2019s strong public support. \u201cOur recent rally in Hyderabad Division was massive. And this is just the beginning \u2014 we will soon hold major rallies in Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, and Karachi as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He reiterated that the PPP stood with the people on the issue. \u201cWe are with the public on this matter,\u201d he said, echoing the party\u2019s growing campaign to mobilise opinion against the canal initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The controversial canal proposal \u2014 reportedly approved by the caretaker government through the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) \u2014 has sparked significant resistance in Sindh, where concerns over water scarcity remain acute.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) has strongly opposed the construction of six new canals from the Indus River, warning that the project could intensify inter-provincial tensions and worsen already dire water shortages in Sindh.<\/p>\n<p>In its sixth meeting of the 27th Executive Committee, held at the SCBAP registry branch in Lahore, the committee passed a series of resolutions addressing key national concerns, including water distribution, regional security, and political unrest.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah reaffirmed his province\u2019s united opposition to the proposed canal projects, declaring that the people of Sindh will not back down from their stance.
