{"id":46708,"date":"2026-04-07T12:04:26","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T12:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=46708"},"modified":"2026-04-07T12:04:26","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T12:04:26","slug":"petrol-pump-owners-threaten-nationwide-shutdown-over-commission-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=46708","title":{"rendered":"Petrol pump owners threaten nationwide shutdown over commission dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) and the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association (APPPOA) on Tuesday warned of a nationwide closure of petrol pumps if their demands for an increased commission are not met.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a press conference at the Islamabad Press Club, PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan said the association had considered a strike but refrained in the public interest. He added that they were neither invited to meetings nor consulted.<\/p>\n<p>He demanded that their commission be increased to 8 per cent, accusing the government of attempting to extract all taxes from the petroleum industry.<\/p>\n<p>Khan said a strike call would be announced after their next meeting. He added that all petrol pumps and dealers were united, warning that under such conditions, they might sell their pumps and shut down operations.<\/p>\n<p>He further said that the Balochistan government had stated petrol would be available at Rs280 per litre in the province, alleging that Iranian petrol was entering the market and its price was being set locally.<\/p>\n<p>APPPOA Chairman Humayun Khan said their primary demand was the introduction of a proportional commission. He said their commission should increase when fuel prices rise, adding that their business was becoming unsustainable under the current system.<\/p>\n<p>Read:\u00a0Petrol pump owners warn of potential fuel shortage amid ME crisis<\/p>\n<p>Humayun said they could not continue selling petrol at existing commission rates and urged the government to address their demands before petrol pumps begin shutting down.<\/p>\n<p>He also claimed that several unrelated institutions in Punjab were inspecting petrol pumps, adding that the government was venting its frustration on traders under pressure from US President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>He said petrol pump owners were currently receiving a commission of Rs8 per litre, adding that multiple taxes were deducted from this amount.<\/p>\n<p>Humayun said their business was also being severely affected by the influx of smuggled fuel. He questioned why the authorities responsible for curbing smuggling had been unable to stop it and asked who was responsible for controlling smuggling at the borders.<\/p>\n<p>He further alleged that oil marketing companies were hoarding petrol. He added that if dealers were not benefiting at all, it would be impossible to continue the business.<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday,\u00a0Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs80 per litre reduction in the petroleum levy on petrol, a day after prices were raised by Rs137 per litre, saying the move would bring the petrol price down to Rs378 per litre.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement came a day after the government raised the petrol price by Rs137 per litre, taking it to a record high of Rs458.4. PM Shehbaz\u00a0had decided to increase the petroleum levy on petrol to Rs160.61 per litre, marking the highest level in history. With a single notification, the premier raised the levy from Rs106 to Rs161 per litre, an increase of Rs55 in taxes.<\/p>\n<p>The government also pushed the price of high-speed diesel to a record Rs520.35 per litre, an increase of Rs185 per litre, or 55 per cent. However, the prime minister abolished the petroleum levy on high-speed diesel, retaining only a Rs2.5 per litre carbon levy in addition to all import duties.<\/p>\n<p>Read more:\u00a0Petrol pump owners threaten nationwide shutdown<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on March 25, APPPOA warned of a countrywide closure of petrol pumps if urgent concerns surrounding the petroleum industry are not addressed by the government.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter sent to Power Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, the association\u2019s Vice Chairman Nouman Ali Butt called for an immediate meeting to discuss the pressing issues facing petrol pump owners.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would like to have a meeting with you at your earliest convenience to discuss and address the concerns of almost 14,000\u201315,000 petrol pump owners that need immediate attention,&#8221; Butt said in the letter. &#8220;In case we are unheard, we would be compelled to shut down the business, which would add another fuel crisis in Pakistan&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The letter highlighted a series of ongoing challenges, including operations, finances, pricing, and the sudden situational changes stemming from force majeure events.<\/p>\n<p>On March 04, APPPOA\u00a0addressed a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, raising concerns over a potential petroleum shortage as delays in fuel supply occur.<\/p>\n<p>According to the letter, oil marketing companies (OMC) have reportedly implemented a quota system amid the ongoing Middle East\u00a0crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are either not providing the product or have limited it to such an extent that we hardly fulfil the need of the public, or fuel stations get dry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The APPPOA states that orders are placed but then will be subsequently cancelled, with lorries getting stuck for long hours without procuring the product.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) and the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association (APPPOA) on Tuesday warned of a nationwide closure of petrol pumps if their demands for an increased commission are not met.
