The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Asim Munir, on Saturday concluded a three-day official visit to Iran, where he underscored the need for dialogue and de-escalation to achieve a peaceful resolution of the US-Iran conflict through diplomatic efforts, the military\u2019s media wing said in a statement.<\/p>\n

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, along with a delegation, held meetings with the Iranian leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the visit, the field marshal called on the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, and held separate meetings with the Speaker of the National Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and the Commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters Major General Ali Abdollahi,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

The ISPR said the discussions focused on fostering sustainable peace in the region, with particular emphasis on the evolving security environment, ongoing diplomatic engagements, and collaborative measures aimed at promoting long-term stability.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe field marshal underscored the need for dialogue, de-escalation, and the peaceful resolution of outstanding issues through sustained diplomatic efforts,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

According to the ISPR, during the visit, the field marshal expressed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Iranian leadership and the people of Iran. He also conveyed sincere regards and best wishes from the president, the prime minister, and the people of Pakistan to the Iranian leadership, reaffirming Pakistan\u2019s desire to further strengthen historic and brotherly ties between the two countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe visit reflects Pakistan\u2019s unwavering resolve to facilitate a negotiated settlement to the Middle East conflict and to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, CDF Munir landed in Tehran as part of ongoing Middle East peace efforts, three days after US\u00a0and Iranian delegations held talks in Islamabad; however, the talks ended without any result.<\/p>\n

Despite this, Pakistan continued its diplomatic push to resolve the conflict, as Iran\u2019s foreign minister, a day earlier, announced that the strategic Strait of Hormuz would remain open to commercial shipping during a US-brokered 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.<\/p>\n

Following the announcement, US President Donald Trump praised\u00a0Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.<\/p>\n

In a post on Truth Social, he said: “Thank you to Pakistan and its great prime minister and field marshal, two fantastic people!”<\/p>\n

The US and Israel launched a\u00a0joint offensive\u00a0on Iran on February 28, killing dozens of top military officials, including then-Supreme Leader Ali\u00a0Khamenei, before a two-week ceasefire was mediated by Pakistan earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, and restricted the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for oil and gas shipments.<\/p>\n

Fighting later spread to Lebanon after Israel launched an offensive there, widening the conflict, as the United States and Israel continued attacks on Iran.<\/p>\n

As the conflict continued to expand and intensify, Pakistan emerged as a mediator alongside other regional powers in the escalating crisis. As the negotiation process began, the United States and Iran exchanged their respective positions, but early discussions yielded no progress. However, following sustained diplomatic efforts by Pakistan, both sides agreed to hold talks in Islamabad last week.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
