{"id":6411,"date":"2025-05-07T06:04:14","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T06:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=6411"},"modified":"2025-05-07T06:04:14","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T06:04:14","slug":"barry-diller-husband-of-diana-von-furstenberg-comes-out-as-gay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=6411","title":{"rendered":"Barry Diller, husband of Diana von F\u00fcrstenberg, comes out as gay"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Barry Diller, the influential media mogul and longtime husband of fashion icon Diane von F\u00fcrstenberg, has come out as gay whilst discussing his unconventional relationship in a candid new memoir.<\/p>\n<p>In an excerpt from Who Knew, published Monday in New York Magazine, the 83-year-old Diller reflects on his past same-sex relationships and his complex but enduring love for von F\u00fcrstenberg, calling their romance \u201cthe miracle of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile there have been a good many men in my life, there has only ever been one woman,\u201d Diller writes. \u201cShe didn\u2019t come into my life until I was 33 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Diller, the chairman of IAC and Expedia Group, has been married to von F\u00fcrstenberg since 2001.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>View this post on Instagram<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A post shared by SAY BIBLE (@thesaybible)<\/p>\n<p>Their relationship, which began in the 1970s and spanned periods of separation and reconciliation, has long intrigued the media, particularly given speculation about Diller\u2019s sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>Though Diller says he lived much of his adult life as \u201cmore or less openly gay,\u201d he admits he feared publicly acknowledging it due to the stigma of the time. \u201cFear of exposure still had a tyrannical hold on me,\u201d he writes. \u201cIt stunted any chance of my having a fulfilling personal life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also acknowledged that the passionate and spontaneous nature of his relationship with von F\u00fcrstenberg defied explanation. \u201cI also liked guys, but that was not a conflict with my love for Diane,\u201d he states. \u201cIn some cosmic way, we were destined for each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their relationship has weathered decades, including a 10-year separation and rumours of infidelity, but Diller describes it as the \u201cbedrock\u201d of his life.<\/p>\n<p>The pair were most recently seen together at the 2024 Met Gala, a rare public moment for a couple that has lived largely on their own terms.<\/p>\n<p>In his memoir, Diller also reflects on how shifting cultural attitudes have made space for more fluid identities. \u201cSexual identities are much more fluid and natural now,\u201d he writes, \u201cwithout all those rigidly defined lanes of the last century.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Who Knew will be released on 20 May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch has been written about us, whispered about us, wondered about us,\u201d Barry Diller writes about his 50-year relationship with Diane von F\u00fcrstenberg.
