The Office is officially getting a spinoff.<\/p>\n

NBCUniversal\u2019s Upfront event on Monday gave viewers their first glimpse at The Paper, a mockumentary-style comedy that shifts the iconic format from a paper company to an actual newsroom.<\/p>\n

Set in Toledo, Ohio, The Paper follows a ragtag crew of underdog journalists trying to keep a struggling Midwestern publication, The Truth Teller, alive.<\/p>\n

The new series stars Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Nu\u00f1ez, and Sabrina Impacciatore, and will debut this September on Peacock.<\/p>\n

Nu\u00f1ez reprises his role as Oscar, now relocated from Dunder Mifflin to The Truth Teller.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told Greg Daniels that Oscar should live somewhere more cosmopolitan,\u201d Nu\u00f1ez joked on stage. \u201cHe moved me to Toledo \u2014 which, yes, is three times the size of Scranton.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gleeson, who plays an entirely new character (despite teasing fans with a redhead joke referencing The Office’s Meredith), described the cast as \u201can ensemble of underdog characters banding together to keep journalism alive.\u201d<\/p>\n

On social media, fans quickly reacted with a mix of excitement, nostalgia, and curiosity.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Many fans on X were speculating whether the new show will be able to live upto the name of the original.<\/p>\n

Even though that is a high-bar, many fans were also critical of American Television’s continued trend towards rehashing old ideas in place of new ones.<\/p>\n
