{"id":7486,"date":"2025-05-16T09:04:20","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T09:04:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=7486"},"modified":"2025-05-16T09:04:20","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T09:04:20","slug":"severe-heatwave-grips-pakistan-temperatures-to-remain-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=7486","title":{"rendered":"Severe heatwave grips Pakistan, temperatures to remain high"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>A severe heatwave continues to grip most parts of Pakistan, with temperatures expected to remain significantly above normal through the weekend, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).<\/p>\n<p>A strong high-pressure system prevailing in the upper atmosphere is driving the extreme conditions, which are forecast to persist for at least three to four more days.<\/p>\n<p>Daytime temperatures are likely to soar 5 to 7\u00b0C above seasonal averages in northern and central regions\u2014including Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan\u2014until May 19.<\/p>\n<p>In the southern half, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, temperatures are forecast to stay 4 to 6\u00b0C above normal through May 20.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday and Saturday, most areas are expected to experience very hot and dry conditions, with southern and central districts particularly affected.<\/p>\n<p>During the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed nationwide, with very hot conditions in the plains.<\/p>\n<p>The highest temperatures recorded were 48\u00b0C in Turbat and Dadu, and 47\u00b0C in Dera Ghazi Khan.<\/p>\n<p>Major urban centres like Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Multan, and Peshawar are forecast to experience daily highs between 40\u00b0C and 48\u00b0C through the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Coastal cities such as Karachi will remain hot and humid, while interior districts like Dadu and Mohenjo-Daro may see highs exceeding 50\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities advise the public to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and take heatwave precautions, especially for vulnerable populations.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A severe heatwave continues to grip most parts of Pakistan, with temperatures expected to remain significantly above normal through the weekend, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
